DATE ORANGE NUT BREAD
from the Mary Day

1 cup pitted dates, sliced
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
3 cups flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 T. soft shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. grated orange peel
1/2 cup orange juice
1 cup milk

Sift the four dry ingredients together. Add the wet ingredients and mix until blended. Fold in the dates and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees in a greased loaf pan for 1 hour, 10 minutes.
